Even though we have just had our summer season, we are kind of on count down until the next summer, because once new year approaches us, summer will come around before we know it. If you are eager to ensure your garden is ready for next year’s garden parties, gatherings and BBQs, then this article will offer some helpful hints and tricks on how to ensure your garden will look at its best for the new year.
Consider changing your lawn
A beautiful lawn helps to make a garden look well looked after and welcoming, if your lawn doesn’t look the way you want it to, then the good news is you have until next summer to get it looking right. However, this may take lots of time and effort, so in this case artificial grass is the way forward, as you can achieve a well-kept looking lawn all year round with little to no maintenance. Artificial grass does not seem false in its appearance and texture, there are even types of artificial grass when are pet friendly, so almost any type of home is able to transform their lawn with artificial grass.
Remove dead items
Dead items can include: rotten plants, dead trees, dead flowers and weeds. It is a good idea to do this before winter approaches, as it will only get worse during winter. You may even decide to remove all plants and plant new flowers and plants just before spring. This is an especially good idea, if you have plants which will not survive a harsh winter. If you start weeding your terrain now, it shouldn’t be so bad for when we start to approach spring.
Landscape your garden
Landscaping a garden can become a winter project, you just need to have a design in mind. If you struggle to imagine the type of landscaping in which you want to incorporate into your garden, then social media websites such as: Pinterest and Instagram offer plenty of outdoor design inspiration. A current landscaping design favourite, is when gardens have a minimalistic theme. In this case less is more and neutral colours are used within the design.
Add a patio
Patios tie in with landscaping, but they are not exclusive to a landscaping design. Patios are almost essential for summer entertainment, as they offer a social area for you and your guests to socialise upon and it can even be used as a dance floor if things get livelier. The type of materials that can be used to create a patio vary, the most popular types of patio paving are granite, Indian sandstone, brick and concrete.
Decking may also be used for creating a social space. Some home owners may sway towards using garden decking opposed to paving, as it is considerably cheaper using paving materials. The only possible downside to use of decking is that the timber may need to be replaced more frequently than paving, as timber is more susceptible to wear and tear from weather conditions.
Winter-proof outdoor items
This is the most sensible thing to do, if you want to preserve items in your garden during harsher weather conditions. Some garden enthusiasts use straw and bark to shield their plants from freezing and some plants are even placed in compost bins to keep them shielded.
It’s also a good idea to protect outdoor furniture, by covering it and making sure it is not ruined by damp and icy conditions. Shrink wrapping is a good way to ensure furniture and other items are not damaged by weathering.
